General settings, languages, and site information

Use General when you need to check basic information for the site you currently selected. This is useful before you make a site-wide change.

What each section means

Site Description

This is information that describes the site as a whole. It is not the text of one page.

Languages

Here you can see which site languages are available and which one is the default. For example, a site might use Dutch as its default language and also have English content.

Standards & Formats

This section controls conventions that apply across the site, such as how dates or numbers appear.

Check the basics

1. Check that you selected the right site.
2. Open Settings and choose General.
3. Open the section that matches your question.

Viewing these settings does not change them. If General is missing, ask an administrator for access to Settings.
